A week of hockey, friendship and lifelong memories

20 years of success!

The 20th year of Maria Rooth Summer Hockey School (MR SHS) will once again be in Maria’s hometown, Ängelholm. The school will be housed in Catena Arena, and both weeks offer boarding at the arena in lodges and other spaces. The school is open to all girls to register.

MR SHS started in Wallenstamshallen in Gothenburg (2006) where we were housed for two years before it became four years at Tjörn, and then Halmstad for 12 years. The school is one of Sweden’s and the world’s largest hockey schools for girls, which we are enormously proud of. The school’s concept is and remains the same; all students at the school should be seen and learn as much as possible about the technical basics of hockey. The students get to be close to their idols because all groups are led by female role models in women’s hockey. Last but not least, they get to meet lots of new friends.

Catena Arena can accommodate over 6,300 spectators, and offers a total of three ice surfaces, a shooting ramp, a large gym, football fields and an ice hockey shop to name a few.

Own camping! We will continue to have the opportunity to offer “Rooth’s camping”, which will be located right outside the arena for parents with a caravan or motorhome. Cost 350:-/day.

A busy week

The school is as usual only for girls! I, Maria Rooth, am one of the instructors on the ice and I am assisted by national team players/SDHL players and other talented leaders. We also have guest coaches every day who come in and hold sessions with the girls. With a year as a college coach at the highest level, I have gathered knowledge from, in my opinion, one of the best coaches in the world; Shannon Miller. She, of all people, knows what it takes to be a great coach! She won 5 US Championships as a coach for UMD (3 of them when I played for the school). Much of what I learned permeates coaching and mindset.

It will be a packed week with hockey girls from many countries and ages. Ice sessions, intramural games, fitness sessions, new friends, memories for life and a lot of other fun will be added! Registration takes place on Sunday afternoon. Activities run from approximately 8am – 7pm Monday-Friday. Each group will have at least one intramural game and one other ice activity in the evening. The school will end on Saturday with an internal game and awards ceremony.
Goalkeepers will be offered special sessions with well-trained goalkeeping coaches during the week. All goalkeepers can also come to the camp at a reduced price!

The grouping depends on the number of registered students and their individual knowledge and experience. The groups may be changed after the first day, in consultation with the coaches and the student.

Each day includes at least two ice sessions, one or two fitness sessions and one theory session/other activity. We are primarily aimed at those born 2006-2015.

We can offer a varied training where you will get personalized help with exactly what you need to improve. The school draws inspiration from Sweden, the USA and Canada – the home of hockey.

During the weeks, we will be visited by secret guests, each with a unique background in ice hockey or other sports. We hope they will inspire you to get involved in sport.
